Summary/Overview

 

Brian McDermott and Gerry Sexton are the Chief Storyteller and the Chief Explorer of GrowthWorks Inc. They are co-authors of Leading Innovation: Creating Workplaces Where People Excel So Organizations Thrive.  

They have developed an interactive, high-energy process that involves and engages clients strategically, intellectually, and creatively. Their process is  based on the conviction that people come to their jobs with good intentions and a wealth  of wisdom, creativity, and passion that's just waiting to be tapped. 

CLIENTS: They have worked with Microsoft, Pfizer, Caterpillar, AstraZeneca, American Express, Novell, Allianz Life, Textron Financial, Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide, Imation, the YMCA, Mayo Clinic, Meeting Professionals International, American Institute of Architecture, Search Institute, and other organizations throughout the world with projects related to strategic planning, leadership, innovation, change, creativity, sales, teamwork, communication, service, and creating purposeful work. They speak frequently at corporate events and international conferences. 

Brian McDermott --  bmcdermott@growthworksinc.com 

brings a unique mix of experience to his work as a facilitator, trainer and consultant. He has worked with organizations throughout the US, and internationally, dealing with issues ranging from strategic planning to leadership, negotiations, teamwork, sales, communication, personal development and more. He has spoken at numerous national and international conferences, including those sponsored by VNU Learning, Training Directors' Forum, The Association for Quality and Participation, the International Management Council, and the American Society for Training and Development. 

 

With a degree in journalism from Marquette University, Brian has worked for newspapers, magazines, in corporate communications, and for one of the leading U.S. publishers in the training, human resources and general management areas. He worked as a business journalist, conference designer, editor, and video producer. He has published hundreds of articles on management, quality, innovation, customer service, and training, as well as organization development and all-around best business practices. He also was instrumental in developing a successful series of international conferences dealing with training, service, quality and other management issues, and served as the Executive Director of the Positive Employee Practices Institute.  

 

Gerry Sexton -- gsexton@growthworksinc.com 

brings experience to his work as a facilitator, trainer and consultant from a career path that has included everything from flying airplanes to practicing medicine. He draws on ten years working on individual and organizational development issues with companies throughout the US, as well as in Brazil, Italy, France, the  U.K. and The Netherlands.

 

Gerry earned his Doctorate of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Texas. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Aeronautical Studies from the University of North Dakota, graduating Summa Cum Laude while also attaining a commercial pilot’s license. He also spent five years at the Calhoun Beach Club in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he first ran the health fitness center and later was responsible for the entire facility, including the residential, restaurant, and meeting and banquet facilities.

 

He has worked on issues ranging from strategic planning, to leadership, negotiations, teamwork, communication, sales, personal development and more. He also has spoken at numerous national and international conferences, including the Training Director’s Forum, the Phoenix Executive Briefing Series, the American Society for Training and Development, the American Creativity Association, the International Management Council.
